1) Stage Combat Workshop

October 4, 2012 there will be a stage combat class with a wonderful couple who graduated from Bethel and studied in Hollywood. This will be held from 6-7:30 pm at the  Community Congregational Church on the corner of Cleveland Rd and 931 (a few miles south of the Niles Walmart).  This class is amazing information and sooo much fun!  Be prepared for anything!

The cost will be $20 per person for those not already in the Theatre for Children and Young Adults class.

2)  Theatre, Music, Vocal Classes in Niles

Theatre for Children and Young Adults will be adding classes and lessons in Niles Michigan starting next week.  Classes will be Monday from 3:30-4 and 4:30-6.  You must call or email to preregister.  574-514-4000 or theatreforchildren@gmail.com   Our registration is also available on our website www.theatreforchildrenandyoungadults.com.   We will be studying singing, acting and dancing!  We have guest artists throughout the year and will produce a full stage production at the end of the semester.  Everyone is guaranteed a part!  These classes are always open to homeschool and traditional schooled students!  The classes are also part of the Niles Homeschool Partnership.

Our South Bend class meets on Thursday night and we still have a few openings. We will be starting a class in Elkhart in mid October.  Please contact us if you are interested for date and times and location information.

3) PSAT Test

The PSAT is a standardized test similar to the SAT and ACT.  It is given to 10th and 11th graders.  The test, when administered to 11th graders, qualifies them for a Merit Scholorship if they score well enough.  The only way to qualify for this Merit Scholarship is to take the PSAT in 11th grade.

If you have a student interested, or know of other homeschool, private school, or public school students that are in 11th grade encourage them to take this test.  It is done through the local high school.  It does not matter in which school you take it.  You do need to sign up as soon as the schools are taking registrations, due to limited seating space.  There are two testing dates, Wednesday, October 17th and Saturday, October 20th.  Niles will most likely be administering the test on Saturday.  If you worship on Saturday, I would suggest you call Berrien Springs or Andrews Academy to see if they do it on a Wednesday.  The cost is in the ballpark of $14.  I will let you know the exact cost if you intend on taking the test.

If you or anyone you know is interested and you would like me to help you sign up, please contact me.

I know, personally, of a few homeschoolers who have taken the test and receive the Merit Scholarship or were Merit finalists.  Either distinction enables you to get either scholarships or reductions in tuition at all colleges.  I encourage all 11th graders to take the test.  You never know how well you will do until you try.

G1) Free Homeschool Planner
For you organized and wannabe organized homeschoolers, here is a site that offers a free personalized homeschool planning system:

G2) Free Monthly Homeschool Lesson Plans
Education is a fundamental part of our children's growth and well-being. With programs being cut and personal resources dwindling, it can be difficult to provide a quality education for our children. That is why I created The Bulletin. I believe everyone should have access to quality educational materials.

Each month The Bulletin will feature a different theme for that month's lesson. The lesson book will cover the curriculum (K-12) for reading, writing, math, social studies, science, and arts and crafts. All presented in a way that makes learning fun and exciting. Each lesson comes as an e-book that is available in nine E-PUB versions so you can conduct your classes how you'd like, and where you want. This book is also available as a printable download.

A subscription to The Bulletin is 100% free. Each month you'll receive The Bulletin, which will contain a synopsis of that month's lesson theme, a coupon code and link to receive the book. It's that simple.

Thank you for your consideration,
Laura K Marshall
