G1) Brain Warmer Upper

A man went into a party and drank some of the punch. The man then left early. Everyone at the party who drank the punch subsequently died of poisoning except for him. No one added anything to the punch after it was originally prepared. Why did the man not die?

Answer to last week's puzzle:
Harry Potter, like all other books, has odd-numbered pages on the right. Therefore, pages 15 and 16 are the front and back of a single page, and nothing could have been found between them.

The Ave Maria Foundation has established a scholarship fund at Ave Maria University (AMU) in order to fund a limited number of scholarships, ($7,000 a year for 4 years) for Catholic Homeschooled students from Michigan to attend AMU. Ave Maria University is offering a limited number of generous scholarships specifically for Catholic Homeschooled students from Michigan to attend Ave Maria University (AMU) in Florida. We believe AMU is a great fit for students who have been homeschooled for a significant portion of their academic career. If you are Catholic and you have a son or daughter looking for an affordable, yet excellent, way to continue their Catholic education, please review the attached information, which is also listed below for your convenience.

In addition to the on this scholarship, I also want to make you aware of an event that we are hosting on Saturday, November 21 at 5:30 p.m. at Domino's Farms in Ann Arbor for high school seniors and their parents.  The AMU Admissions Counselor for the state of Michigan will be present and this would be a great opportunity to learn more about AMU.  Please see the details below.

6) Musician of Promise college scholarship

Students who aspire to be exceptional musicians will find their dream easier to fulfill with Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College's new music scholarship. The SMWC Music and Theatre Department announces a new opportunity for students wishing to pursue a degree in music or music therapy. A collaborative effort between the Music and Theatre Department, the Office of Financial Aid and the Office of Admission, the SMWC Musician of Promise Scholarship is a $17,000 scholarship toward the cost of tuition, renewable for four years.

"Music has been an integral part of the Saint Mary-of-the-Woods liberal arts curriculum since its inception. The music faculty excel in their fields and provide students with a supportive, yet challenging, learning experience from day one," states Sharon Boyle, MM, MT-BC, associate professor music therapy and coordinator of the undergraduate music therapy program at SMWC. "We excel in helping a student develop their potential both musically and professionally, while encouraging them to grow personally as well. There is no other experience quite like being a music student at the Woods."

SMWC is currently accepting Musician of Promise Scholarship applications for the 2016-17 academic year. This requires an essay in addition to the interview and audition that all prospective music and music therapy students complete.

Students applying for the Musician of Promise Scholarship will also automatically be considered for other music scholarships as well. While only one student will receive the Musician of Promise Scholarship each year, many deserving students who audition may also receive some type of music scholarship to assist with overall financial aid packages.

To qualify for the scholarship, students must be admitted, first-time freshmen who plan to attend SMWC full-time in a music degree program. Students must submit an audition request form followed by an audition, essay and interview. Deadline is March 5, 2016.

Learn more about the audition process: https://youtu.be/LG1HCIV7ntE

7) Kickstarter Campaign for Great Lakes Game

Greetings!

I'm reaching out to homeschoolers in the Great Lakes region to connect you to a cooperative science-based game and curriculum that motivates students toward strategic cooperation, holistic thinking, and love of our planet.

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/190128939/mussel-madness-in-the-great-lakes

Mussel Madness was inspired by the real-life mussel invasion of the Great Lakes. It's a fun, engaging game that educates about environmental/economic interconnection through play. The companion curriculum aligns with Next Generation Science and Common Core English Language Arts standards for grades 4-5 and 6-8, allowing flexible opportunities for meaningful activity with and beyond the game itself. It also aligns with Pope Francis' messages on environmental responsibility.

An eight-minute film on the ecological impacts of the quagga mussel invasion to the Great Lakes is also free to share with students.

The deadline to reserve a game is Nov. 11. Please learn more at the Kickstarter page.

If you are excited about this game, thank you for your support and for spreading the word!

Where are you teaching about the Great Lakes?

Cheers!
