2) Art Exhibit at Bethel College

Curator of Education and Outreach at South Bend Museum of Art Jessi Lentych Loyd will showcase her artwork entitled, "Lions, Robots & Union Guys," with an opening reception on Friday, Nov. 30 from 5 to 7 p.m. The event will be held in the Weaver Art Gallery located inside the Everest-Rohrer Chapel/Fine Arts Center.

"Our perspective is influenced by the present — where we find ourselves mentally and emotionally, but also where we find ourselves standing politically and even physically. Our art reflects this," says Loyd.

Lions, Robots & Union Guys represents all of these influences upon Loyd in the past year: two young boys under 3, a life changing accident while pregnant with the second child, conversations with her 2½-year-old about lions, robots and union guys, and the prevalence in our political sphere of heated debates about unions and the future role of labor in this country.

"Pottery is a part of our everyday lives, present with us at nearly every meal, and so a reflection of all of these topics through clay seems only natural," says Loyd.

Both thoughts and physical objects are built on one another, which are demonstrated in some of this work. Using surface decoration, image transfers and patterns, Loyd was able to experiment with different techniques while creating a visually stimulating launching point for the conversations this work hopes to encourage.

The Weaver Art Gallery exhibits are free and open to the public. For any questions, contact the department of visual arts at 574.807.7022 or visualart@BethelCollege.edu.
