G2) Opportunity for Homeschool Kids

We would like to extend an invitation for your students (18 and younger) to get paid to be Kid Critics.

Critique By Kids is an online review company, similar in nature to TripAdvisor but we do video reviews that show the child's perspective of businesses that cater to children and families. Our Kid Critics get paid $40-$50 plus the service is provided when they do a video review of businesses such as restaurants, hotels, zoos, museums, amusement parks, karate classes, acting classes, etc.

Critique By Kids is a relatively new company that started by a group of homeschoolers in May of 2013. We have been growing rapidly and have recently caught the eye of the media. We will be featured in several news programs across the country this summer and are currently in coordination with the Ellen DeGeneres Show to be featured sometime in the fall.

To learn more about us or to register as a Kid Critic family, go to critiquebykids.com. When you register, PLEASE Make sure to put "Homeschool HUB" in the business field.  This will help support the Homeschool HUB at no cost to you.

Feel free to call me with any questions.

Thank you,

G3)  Summer Photo Contest for Homeschool Students

Summer is around the corner! Time to grab your camera (or smart phone) for HSLDA's annual Photography Contest!

Offering cash prizes upwards of $200, this contest is open to all homeschooled students ages 7-19.  We try to choose themes that leave plenty of room for imaginative interpretation, so we invite you to be creative and have fun!

Category 1 (ages 7-10) theme: Interesting
Category 2 (ages 11-14) theme: Memorable
Category 3 (ages 15-19) theme: Ordinary

Each student is invited to enter up to three photos relating to the theme for their age category.

At hear it from the judges, you can view the judges' comments from previous contests to get a better sense of what to look for or avoid when taking pictures.  Also, look at the winning photos from previous years to get an idea of what the judges are looking for!

Guidelines and entry forms can be found on our website, as well as information about our other annual contests, which include art, poetry, and essay writing.

"Why should my children study photography? It's not academic."
"A picture is worth a thousand words." We are reminded of this each time we pick up a newspaper or storybook.  A good photograph can capture reality and evoke emotion in a powerful way.  One glance at a war-torn countryside or starving community may linger in a person's soul and motivate them to great actions.

Journalistic photography has impacted the world, and a good photographer must learn the art of seeing the opportunities that exist all around and then decide the best way to capture them.  Our contest offers students a chance to engage this discipline in a fun way that encourages them to think outside the box.  If our children are to positively influence the world around them, a well-trained eye will help them spot both opportunities and exploitations.

Let's train our children to recognize and harness the impact of a well-taken photograph.

G4)  Free Game to Learn Birdsongs

Learn to Bird by Ear With New "Bird Song Hero."  Learning bird songs is a key birding skill, and it's one of the most frequently requested features our website visitors ask for. So our All About Bird Biology team developed Bird Song Hero. This fun game puts the visual side of your brain to work, asking you to match the song you're hearing to one of three visual representations of the sound. With more than 50 songs featured, you might just end up with a catchy song stuck in your head.

2)  Washington D.C. Tour with Landmark Events

Heart of American History Tour  July 14-19, 2014

Greetings friends,

Biblical worldview is everything when interpreting history and doubtful you have experienced the Washington DC area with such a team of historians, that we believe are the best available! Explore God's providence in our nation's capital with Bill Potter, Colonel John Eidsmoe and Bernie Beall on a tour that has been years in the planning and which will offer the most diverse, iconic, fascinating, provocative, educational and entertaining historical sites imaginable.

We will examine the history of the founding fathers and the foundations of the law they established in the name of God — military campaigns against foreign foes and the Great War that tore our nation apart, the role of the church in the development of our nation, and much much more. The antithesis between God's Law and secular humanism, Christianity and paganism, the Sovereign Lord and wannabe-sovereign man is everywhere apparent if you know where to look, and you have the men to show you.

So join other like-minded families and see Washington DC like you never have before as we mine the vast and incredible providences of God and enjoy wonderful fellowship. Space is limited, so sign up today!

Announcing Landmark Events Referral Rebates — Now through December 31, 2014, refer a friend or family to a tour you are already registered for and they will receive 10% off registration PLUS you will receive a rebate equal to the dollar amount you saved your friends! MATH RESOURCE

Math-Whizz is a supplemental online math-tutoring resource.  It is Diagnostic, Adaptive, and Prescriptive.  Diagnostic - It uses an Initial Placement Assessment (45 minutes of questions) to determine the student's current math-skill level (we call it "Math-Age").  Adaptive - The Digital Tutor uses student performance data to constantly assess how a student is developing their math skills.  Prescriptive - Rather than requiring a parent to pick and choose exercises for the student, the Tutor does that for you.  It uses exercise performance data to analyze the student's progress and prescribe the next exercise instantly.
