Bethel Presents: "The Diary of Anne Frank" Guest Directed by Film and Television Actor Clarence Gilyard

The Bethel College theatre department presents "The Diary of Anne Frank," Oct. 31, Nov. 1, 2 and 8 at 7:30 p.m.; and Nov. 2 at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. in the Everest-Rohrer Chapel/Fine Arts Center – Auditorium.

To escape the horrors of Nazi persecution, Otto Frank hides with his wife and two daughters in the attic rooms above an Amsterdam warehouse. For two years, the Franks, along with the Van Daan family and a dentist named Mr. Dussel, try to live a normal life in their cramped quarters, while always fearing being discovered by the Gestapo. Anne Frank records the story of their trials in her diary, leaving a lasting account of what life was like in war-torn Amsterdam.

Clarence Gilyard, film and television actor known for his roles on "Matlock," "Walker, Texas Ranger," "Die Hard" and "Top Gun," will guest direct the play. Gilyard is an associate professor of theatre at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.

"We are honored to have Clarence Gilyard on our campus this fall, giving our students the opportunity to connect with and learn from a nationally respected professional in their field," says Don Hunter, production manager. "Providing this type of experience to our theatre students is an essential part of their Bethel education. They are already gaining valuable insight from his direction and his interactions in rehearsals."
