G6)  Computer Science and Coding for Kids Free Trial

We're a new ed-tech company called CSJumpstartr.  We've just released a new online product to help kids get started quickly with computer science and coding in Scratch*.  We think CSJumpstartr is especially well suited to homeschooling families.

CSJumpstartr is an online, web-based learning environment built around content-driven templates that allow a child to start creating fun, meaningful projects immediately in the popular Scratch graphical programming language.  It's project-based computer science.  Kids log in, pick a template, and start creating immediately. With CSJumpstartr, parents don't need to be coders themselves to bring coding into their curriculum.

We think CSJumpstartr is a perfect fit for homeschoolers for a few reasons:

It's engaging; with our templates, kids create quizzes, slideshows, and interactive presentations as fun new ways to "show what they know".

It's self-directed; kids create their projects independently with support from our built-in step-by-step guidance.

It's integrated; exposure to Scratch and the fundamentals of coding occurs naturally as a child builds their project.

We offer a 14 day FREE trial at www.csjumpstartr.com, so parents and kids can try it out with no risk at all.  And, for those who buy CSJumpstartr (discounted to $39.99 for launch), we have an innovative referral model where we refund a customer's entire purchase price after they refer three friends who also buy!  This is a great fit for homeschool groups.

If you're interested in learning more, we'd love it if you'd:

① Check out our brief video introducing CSJumpstartr:  https://youtu.be/grjR_jak5Vw

② Check out our website, where you can sign up for our FREE trial:  http://www.csjumpstartr.com/

③ Get in touch with us!  We would love to talk with you about how CSJumpstartr can help you, your contacts, and/or your group members.

Thank you so much!

1) 4-H Tractor Operator Program Offered

Michigan State University Extension will offer the 4-H Tractor Operator Program (TOP)
beginning January 25, 2017. Successful completion of 4-H TOP provides a certificate of
training required for operation of a 20 PTO HP or greater, garden or agricultural tractor,
by 14 and 15 year old youth employed on property not owned, leased or operated by a
parent or legal guardian. Certification is also utilized by youth who exhibit and participate
in local contests, parades and festival activities.

The 9-week course will be taught on Wednesdays, 6:30 – 8:30 p.m., January 25 through
March 29, 2017. This schedule includes educational sessions, some driving practice,
final written and driving tests, and graduation program. In addition, participants will need
access to a computer that is compatible to use a Windows-based CD for part of the
assignments  to reach  the 24 hours  of required training to be certified.  We require  a
minimum of 24 hours of instruction and participants must be 14 years of age by the date
of the driving test to be eligible for certification.

Educational topics include:  farm/ranch hazards and safety, tractor component basics,
pre-operational   procedures,   operation   basics,   tractor-powered   implements,   self-

The 4-H TOP  is one of the most  valuable   experiences we offer that teaches  young
people safety, confidence and job skills to last a lifetime. One hundred percent of 2015
participants indicated they would be a safer worker as a result of taking this training. If
you have questions about 4-H TOP, you may contact Deb Barrett through the previous
listed information or by e-mail at smithde6@anr.msu.edu.

2) Curriculum Fair--Save the Date

Last year the Niles Homeschool Partnership held their first annual Curriculum Fair for new and used curriculum vendors. This year they have decided to have a discussion panel addressing the topic of "Special Needs Students".   At this point, we have on our panel a couple of veteran homeschool moms.

We have reserved Ring Lardner Middle School on Saturday, March 18th.  The curriculum fair itself will run from 10am - 3pm.  Save the date so you don't miss this great event.

4) Volunteer Opportunity

You already know that homeschooling is a challenge. You can help families meet this challenge by becoming a Community Ambassador with the Home School Foundation (HSF), a nationwide non-profit organization whose mission is to help families homeschool through hard times. HSF offers financial assistance through several funds (such as our Widows Fund, our Children of Single Parents Fund, our Military Fund, and our Emergency Response Fund) so that struggling families can purchase homeschool curriculum and supplies.

But many homeschooling families have needs beyond the scope of a grant to buy books. And that's where you come in.

You + 5 Hours/Month = Changed Lives

As a Community Ambassador with HSF's Ambassador Program, you can work in your local homeschool community to identify and address real, tangible needs—like helping a disabled military family with yard maintenance, arranging for clean-up crews after a devastating house fire, or fundraising on behalf of a widow's family in need of winter fuel and clothes.

Would you consider giving 5 hours each month for a year and volunteer as a Community Ambassador with HSF? Whatever skills God has given you, wherever God has placed you—you can serve struggling homeschool families.

We offer a matching grant program to double the efforts of any fundraising you choose to do. And just to show that we're behind you, the first 10 new ambassadors will receive a contribution of $100 toward your first ambassador project.

Together we can strengthen the homeschooling community—one family at a time.
