2) Southwestern Michigan College Welcomes Home Educated Students

Southwestern Michigan College is a community college in Dowagiac and Niles, MI that offers two-year degrees that can get students started on nearly every field of study at a price that is half the cost of most universities and nearly six times less than the average private school. In size and feel, it's much like a private school, providing personable services and a safe, rural campus.

A number of homeschooled students have been very successful at SMC over the years, and the college would love to have more homeschool students on campus. Homeschool students can even take advantage of dual-enrollment programs, which let them start college (often free for Michigan students) while in high school. To learn more, visit swmich.edu or contact homeschool student turned SMC employee Rachel Breden for more information. Her contact information and a message from her are below.

"As a former homeschooler, I can attest to the fact that SMC is a great fit for homeschooled students. For me it was a good alternative to the pricey Christian school I wanted to attend because it is small, rural and fairly conservative for a public school. I'm a huge advocate for SMC and would be more than happy to speak with anyone who would like to learn more."

3) Ancilla College Welcomes Home Educated Students

Hello from Ancilla College!

Graduation is this week, and we have a great group of students earning their associate degrees from Ancilla Saturday. Our alumni speaker this year is a home school student who came to us four years ago and has since graduated and transferred to Valparaiso University (Pre-Law).

When Josh came on a campus tour, he and his family were not sure about what college was going to work for his style of learning. He was shy but very bright and not quite sure about what he wanted to study. He graduated two years later at the top of his class, a member of student government and two other student clubs. He's one of several home school students who flourished at Ancilla.

Ancilla is a small school, with just under 600 students, on a campus near Plymouth, Indiana. We are a fully accredited, private, Catholic college serving students from 12 different states and 14 different countries. We don't have lecture halls, or teaching assistants, or waiting lists. We have one fulltime, professional, qualified faculty member for every 14 students on campus.

Over 97 percent of our graduates rate their educational experience here as "very satisfied" or higher. Our students enjoy personal attention and the chance to earn a degree in one of our 25 academic programs.

Plus, at under $16,000 a year, we are the lowest cost private college in Indiana. Home school students who come to Ancilla can live here, learn from caring, professional faculty, and earn a degree that will take them to the next level, whether that's a job in a high value field or to transfer to a larger university.

Ancilla has new dorms, with spacious double rooms, each with a full (private) bath. No walking down the hall to shower, no ugly concrete block hallways. Students live and study in a great place with wireless networking, free laundry facilities with full meal plans included. (Our room and board costs are lower than almost every other university or college in the Midwest!)

We are still taking applications for fall enrollment (classes start August 21st). If you'd like more information, or come for a campus tour, please email me. We love to show the place to home school students and parents.
