G1) Brain Warmer Upper

Why is it illegal to bury a man living in South Carolina in North Carolina?

Answer to the last puzzle:
She had the hiccups.

G2) Free homeschool book/video/curriculum

Hello,

I homeschooled my two children for over 6 years and no longer need my homeschool curriculums. I would like to donate books and videos to homeschool families. I have a total of 117 items (curriculums/ books/ videos/ and more.)

Here is a link to my blog http://homeschoolingforacademicsuccess.blogspot.com/ , where you can find descriptions and photos of all the material available. I have middle and high school curriculums for math, geography, history, science, programming, music (guitar), writing, and language arts. I also have many IOWA and AP test prep books. Please feel free to forward this information to your group.

Thanks in advance,

Eloisa Minasi

MICHIANA EVENTS AND OPPORTUNITIES

1)  College Scholarship for Michiana Homeschool Students
2)  Bethel College presents "Barefoot in the Park"
3)  Michiana Christian Co-op Open House
4)  Free INSPIRE Education Convention
5) Michigan Home Education Conference

1)  College Scholarship for Michiana Homeschool Students

The Homeschool HUB is offering a $500 college scholarship for one homeschooler in Michiana.  Homeschooled students graduating high school in 2016 who live in Elkhart, La Porte, Marshall, St. Joseph, or Starke counties in Indiana, or Berrien or Cass in Michigan are welcome to apply.  The scholarship is open to any student who homeschooled for at least half of high school.

The application is attached.  It must be returned or postmarked by May 15th, 2016.

2)  Bethel College presents "Barefoot in the Park"

The Bethel College Theatre Department presents, "Barefoot in the Park," by Neil Simon, nominated for a 1964 Tony Award for Best Play. Performances are Friday, May 27 at 7:30 p.m., and Saturday, May 28 at 1 p.m., in the Everest-Rohrer Chapel/Fine Arts Center – Auditorium.

Paul and Corie Bratter are newlyweds in every sense of the word. He's a straight-as-an-arrow lawyer and she's a free spirit. Their new apartment is her most recent find: it's too expensive with bad plumbing and is in need of a paint job. After a six day honeymoon, they get a surprise visit from Corie's loopy mother and decide to play matchmaker during a dinner with their neighbor-in-the-attic, Velasco. Paul just doesn't understand Corie, and, as she sees it, he's too staid, too boring and she just wants him to be a little more spontaneous and run "barefoot in the park"! This is a rib-tickling comedy you will enjoy!

Purchase tickets online at BethelCollege.edu/Tickets or call the ticket office at 574.807.7080, Monday-Friday, 1-5 p.m. The cost is $15 for adults and $13 for students and seniors.

4)  Free INSPIRE Education Convention

Dear Homeschool Parent,

INSPIRE @ Purdue would like to partner with you to help you provide innovative experiences for your child to learn science and mathematics through engineering design challenges that are connected to stories and storybooks. Please consider attending our educator workshop focused on Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade this summer, June 6-10. If you are one of the first 10 homeschool educators to apply you are eligible to receive a $150 stipend for each day you attend (we've heard from homeschool educators in the past that the cost of childcare can be a barrier to participating – so we want to help with that!).

More about INSPIRE: INSPIRE is a research institute housed in the School of Engineering Education at Purdue University, a national leader in engineering. For more than ten years, INSPIRE has been at the forefront of engineering education research, pioneering new ways to bring engineering into the classroom and make learning about basic engineering concepts such as design and problem solving accessible to children of all ages. For the past 10 years we have been offering workshops for elementary school teachers; beginning in 2015 we have included homeschool educators in the workshops as well.

More about the Academy: The Academy will take place June 6th through June 10th . We will ensure that it is tailored to equip homeschool parents with the skills, resources, and understanding to integrate engineering into your homeschool curriculum. The focus of the 2016 Summer Academy is integrating science, engineering, mathematics, computational thinking and literacy in educational experiences for K-2 students to better prepare them for real-world problem solving situations. Please see the attached flyer for more details about the structure of the program.

Who is Eligible: If you are homeschooling a child age eligible to enter K, 1st or 2nd grade fall 2016 you are invited to apply. Be one of the first 10 to apply and receive $150.00 each day you participate to off-set your cost to attend the academy. Applications are due May 13th, and can be found at bit.ly/INSPIREAcademy

We look forward to seeing you this summer!

Sincerely,
Monica Cardella, Ph.D.
