G3) FEE Seminar Scholarships for Homeschool Students

For over 70 years, the non-profit Foundation for Economic Education (FEE) has been providing free resources to inspire and educate students on free market principles. Recently named by Forbes as a top summer student in-person program, FEE is happy to be able to offer tuition reimbursement scholarships to homeschool students.

Students ages 14-26 can apply to one of nine life-changing seminars around the country. Network with peers by joining top students, successful business leaders, and inspiring professors as you discover the relationship between ethical entrepreneurship, personal character, leadership, and the virtues of an enterprising life. Write in the discount code "Homeschool17" at the beginning of the scholarship question on the application. This will guarantee tuition reimbursement (which also covers food and dormitory housing) for those applicants who are accepted. *Travel reimbursement scholarships also available.

Scholarship Application deadline Feb.14th, 2017

For those who are unable to attend one of our in-person events, FEE offers free online courses on Economics and  Entrepreneurship, thus providing an even greater number of students the opportunity to access FEE's educational resources. Available today at no charge at FEE.org/Courses.

For questions or more information about seminars, please contact Anna Jane Parrill at ajparrill@fee.org
If you are in need of a scholarship and are not a homeschool student, please reply to this email and I will be happy to assist you any way I can.

G4) New York Times seeking Teen Perspective

Dear homeschool families,

I'm a writer for the New York Times opinion section, and I'm working on a project to highlight the voices of youth around the country. Specifically, I'm looking for teenagers, ages 13-19, to submit very short videos about their lives and perspectives on our country today. I'd love to include the perspective of a homeschooled teen, and I'm reaching out to see if any teens involved with the Homeschool Hub might be interested in participating. If so, you or they can reach me at anna.north@nytimes.com or at 718-487-9340. Thanks, and happy to answer any questions you might have about the project!

All best,
Anna North

2) Curriculum Fair

Last year the Niles Homeschool Partnership held their first annual Curriculum Fair for new and used curriculum vendors. This year they have decided to have a discussion panel addressing the topic of "Special Needs Students".  At this point, we have on our panel a couple of veteran homeschool moms.

We have reserved Ring Lardner Middle School on Saturday, March 18th.  The curriculum fair itself will run from 9am - 2pm.

3) Elementary Fine Arts Festival

Hello everyone!

Sorry, this is a bit late!

I'm Lydia Mieczkowski, the Elementary MACS (Michigan Association of Christian Schools) coordinator.

I just wanted to inform you all about the 2017 fine arts festival that is just a few weeks away. This festival is for your elementary kids, those that are in 4-6 grades (approximate ages 8-12). The festival will take place on February 24th, 2017 from approximately 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Bethany Christian School (2601 John R Rd., Troy, MI 48083).

If you haven't heard about Elementary MACS, it is designed to give elementary students an opportunity to begin to develop fine arts skills that can be used in future ministry.  The festival will provide insight from qualified judges to help young people improve their abilities in the fields of music, speech, and art.  The festival will be non-competitive, with students performing for the purpose of ratings and feedback from the judges.  Our goal for this festival is to glorify Christ by helping elementary young people develop their God-given talents.

Attached is an individual entry form for you to fill out for your children if you would like them to participate. Please send it with payment to:

Bethany Christian School
Attn: Lydia Mieczkowski
2601 John R Rd.
Troy, MI 48083

Here is the 2017 fee schedule:
- $2 registration fee (paid once by each student)
- $6 individual event fee (paid per event)
- $2 group event fee (paid per student in each group event)

Also, if you pre-purchase lunch, it is $5 per person. On the day of Elementary MACS, it will be $6 per person.

All checks should be made out to Bethany Christian School. If you do make out a check, please make out a separate check for fees and for lunches. No registrations will be accepted after January 27th.

The Group Registration Form is only for those who want to register a group event (piano ensemble, instrumental ensemble, etc.). In the "School" field near the top, just write "Homeschool".

Also, you are welcome to enter any art that fits within the categories. There is a separate form attached for that as well.

Please take a look at the manual for this year, which includes rules and guidelines for all of the festival categories. The manual can be found online here: http://macshome.org/prom ote/fine-arts-festivals/elemen tary/

Please pass this on to any homeschoolers you may know who are involved in fine arts and would benefit from an opportunity like this!
I hope that you can join us for a wonderful experience for your Elementary children!

4) Homeschool Formal: "Deeply Anchored"

This year's homeschool formal, "Deeply Anchored,"  will be Friday, May 5, from 5:30-10:30 p.m. The event will again be held at The Oaks (16323 Roosevelt Rd., Mishawaka). Any homeschooler in 9th-12th grade may attend. Many students come in groups and not on dates. We will have food and a DJ to keep us entertained.

Registration is now open. Payment can be made out to Dana DoBrodt and sent to 58896 Elm Road, Mishawaka, IN 46544. The form (attached to this email) needs to be filled out completely, including any guest information. If you are bringing a guest, you are responsible for his or her behavior. Instructions for payment are as follows: if you pay by March 3rd (postmarked), the cost is $30 per person; by April 3rd, the cost is $35 per person; any date after April 3rd is $40 per person. The last few years we have filled up and had to turn people away, so sign up early.

The night is formal, so girls wear dresses and guys wear dress shirts and nice slacks or suits. We will again honor and pray over any seniors. Due to lack of space, parents are asked to take pictures between 5:00-5:30 and then remain outside for pick up at 10:30. Email Dana at hiddeneagles@att.net with any questions.
