1) Geography Classes

Linda Bolt will be teaching two different Geography classes in her home, beginning September 21 and 23.  Below you will find the course descriptions, and suggested grade levels.  These grade levels are a guideline only; if you have a child whom you feel could benefit from this class, please talk to Linda about it.  Please call Linda Bolt at (574)234-1584 or e-mail:  lindambolt@comcast.net.

The 8-week course on Eastern Europe, the Middle East, Asia and Africa will meet for 1.5 hours each week.  The cost for this course is $40 per student.

The 6-week course on the United States meets for 1 hour each week.  The cost for this course is $25.

Sept. 21-November 9:  Tuesdays, 1:45-3:15 p.m.:  Eastern Europe, Middle East, Asia, Africa:  Grades 6-high school. Goals of this class:  This is an introduction to the countries, capitals, major cities, landforms, bodies of water, culture and religions of these areas of the world.  There will be homework of approximately 4 hours each week.


September 23-October 28:  Thursdays 1-2 p.m.:  United States Geography:  Grades 2-8 (Students must be reading fluently.) Goals of this class:  This course provides an introduction to the United States geography, including locations of all 50 states, the state capitals, major cities, bodies of water, National Parks, culture and economics.  There will be homework of approximately 30 minutes, 3 times during each week.


Linda Bolt earned her teaching degree in Elementary Education and Special Education through Calvin College.  She taught in Christian schools, and has homeschooled for 15+ years.  Linda has had the opportunity to attend the Indiana State Geographic Bee annually from 1998-2007, and has attended the National Geographic Bee in Washington, D. C. twice.  Linda visited all 48 contiguous states, 9 of the Canadian provinces, Haiti, Colombia, and several countries in Western Europe.  Her husband also travels abroad regularly, and brings her souvenirs. Linda's desire is that the children she teaches will become knowledgeable and interested in the world around them.  This desire springs from a foundational belief in spreading the love of Christ to all.  

2) Love Creek Nature Center Classes

We offer a Homeschooler's Outdoor Discovery Class and a Preschooler's
Outdoor Discovery Class (great for homeschooler too!), on a monthly basis
and are looking for more kids to join!

Home Schooler's Outdoor Discovery Class - Beginning Friday, October 8 at
1:30 p.m.  This field class will help elementary-aged home school students
learn about the nature of southwest Michigan. Participants will also enjoy
outdoor recreation activities such as cross-country skiing,   mountain
biking and Voyageur canoeing! The class will meet monthly, as well as a few
additional times for special activities such a night hike and owl prowl.
Most sessions will be held at Love Creek, but a few will take place at
off-site locations. Class fee of $50 per child includes allsessions,
activities and refreshments. Group size is limited and pre-registration is

Preschooler's Outdoor Discovery Class - Beginning Thursday, September 30;
9:30 a.m. or 1:30 p.m.  Let us share our enthusiasm for the outdoors with
your 4-6 year old during this monthlyclass. Each session will include fun,
age-appropriate activities about a nature-related topic-and conclude with
simple refreshments of course! Class fee of $50 per child covers all10
sessions into early June. Group size is limited to insure a quality
experience. Call (269) 471-2617 to register and note you have your choice of
a morning or afternoon session.

3) Free tickets to "Spirit of America" performance

The 2010 Spirit of America schedule will bring more than 300 active duty Soldiers from the U.S. Army Military District of Washington to the cities of Pittsburgh, Pa.,Highland Heights, Ky., and Grand Rapids, Mich.

The history of the nation will come to life through historical reenactments, musical entertainment and precision military drill.  Historical accounts, taken directly from Soldiers' letters and diaries, provide the storyline for this powerful drama, designed to entertain while presenting the history and development of the U.S. Army from its origins through the wars, conflicts, and missions that have molded the Army and the nation.

The Homeschool Hub has secured tickets to this event and is offering them to the homeschool community free of charge. Date for this event is Saturday, September 25 at 2 PM at Van Andel Arena.

We are still accepting Boxtops for education labels.  You can find these on many products.

Go to Boxtops for Education.org for more info, and then SAVE SAVE SAVE  those labels.  Each one nets 10 cents and every 10 cents adds up. You can give them to any HUB board director or bring them to any of our functions that we will be having.  Thank-you!
