GENERAL INTEREST

G1)  Spain - Swimming Mission Trip with Landry Academy

G1)  Spain - Swimming Mission Trip with Landry Academy

Summer 2007..

In the Summer of 2007 we did a "swimming mission trip" to Caceres, Spain. It was a group of about ten high school age swimmers and some parents. We worked with missionaries and the Caceres, Spain swim team. One of our objectives was just to spend time with the Caceres swim team and their families - none of them were Christians.

We practiced with the swim team daily and swam in two meets with them (in beautiful outdoor pools). During the day, we spent time ministering with the Caceres missionaries. We also with the swim team, visiting local areas of interest, such as Merida. Founded in 25 B.C., it's the site of many Roman ruins - very cool!

There were lots of shared meals, shared fun, and they saw Christians in action. Most had very skewed perceptions of Christians and Christianity. A very small percentage of people in Spain are believers. For our swimmers, swimming in Spain, with Spanish swimmers, was beyond cool!

-- This Trip was Fun and Very Powerful!

Many friends were made on this trip. In fact, when we took this trip, I (Greg Landry) was president of our swim team and we stayed with the family who was president of their swim team. We became friends and they spent a week with us in North Carolina two years later. We're looking forward to seeing them again. They will be coordinating the swimming aspects of the trip for us.

Summer 2012..

This summer, we will again take a group of swimmers to Caceres, Spain. We will work with YWAM (Youth with a Mission) missionaries and the Caceres swim team.

Deadline to register is approaching.  Details are here..

This Christian Homeschool Prom is for homeschooled high schoolers around Indiana and surrounding states, and is currently one of the largest homeschool proms in the nation, and the only prom in the world with its unique set-up!  Tickets are all inclusive including a three course gourmet dinner, traditional dancing to live Irish stringed instruments (no knowledge of dancing is required!), a professional DJ during live music breaks,  a night at the Columbia Club on Monument Circle, unlimited sodas,  unlimited photos and prints at the photo booth (NEW!), 5 hours of fun, and more!  Partners Photo will also be back for 2012 taking keepsake formal portraits, with packages starting at $18.

Heartland Homeschool Prom Features:
Based on an incredible amount of feedback from our amazing 2012 attendees, we have made some changes and  Heartland Homeschool Prom 2012 that we know everyone will love!

~Amazing Venue.  This year's prom venue is located in the very heart of downtown Indianapolis on Monument Circle--The Columbia Club! Built in 1888 as the private club of former president Benjamin Harrison, this is one spectacular location!  The Heartland Homeschool Prom reserved the first three floors just for prom attendees. These floors include the white marbled floor and mahogany filled Grand Lobby, the Mezzanine overlooking the Grand Lobby, and the entire gorgeous Crystal Terrace Restaurant where students will be dining.

~NEW Unlimited Sodas.

~Traditional Dancing to Live Irish-Styled String Music. One of the biggest features that makes us different, and the one that teens from all over Indiana and surrounding states love! In fact, students who didn't know if they would like it commented "I LOVED it!" in our 2011 student survey.  The dancing that we will be doing will range from the Virginia Reel to the Patty Cake Polka.  If you've never danced a day in your life,  you will STILL have a wonderful time!  At the Heartland Homeschool Prom we will have someone there to help us with the dances, so no previous knowledge of how to dance is required!

~NEW a Professional DJ.  The 2012 Prom will be having professional DJ, Terry Mautner, to play pre-submitted (and approved) songs during live music breaks!  No song submissions will be allowed on Prom night--because our DJ will only be playing songs that were pre-submitted by coordinators--so please send song suggestions to music@heartlandhomeschoolprom.com along with a copy of the lyrics. Haven't viewed the song guidelines? Please visit our website under FAQs!

~Gourmet Three Course Dinner.  This meal will be served by waiters in the elegance of the full service Crystal Terrace Restaurant, located on the third floor of the Columbia Club.  This historic dining room contains the original marble floors,hand-stenciled ceiling and leaded glass windows overlooking Monument Circle. The meal is a marvelous time for students to get to know other high schoolers from around the Heartland! You can reserve a half or full table for your co-op or special group of friends--visit our website for the details!

~NEW Unlimited Photos and Prints at the Photo Booth.  Included with the prom ticket, attendees will receiveunlimited photos and prints! In the photo booth there'll be bunches of props. PLUS, because it's a kiosk design, you can literally fit your entire group of new and old friends in the photos!  Chaperons and a photo technician will be there the entire time to assist you with getting your photos.

~Everyone's Invited.   The Heartland Homeschool Prom is not affiliated with and particular homeschool group--all homeschooled highschoolers (aged 14-19) and their guests are welcome! For the 2012 prom we currently have students from all around the Heartland attending. The prom takes place in Indianapolis because it is centrally located, not because this is just an Indianapolis prom, or even just an Indiana prom.  Students from all around are attending, and you're invited, too!

To reserve your spot at the Heartland Homeschool Prom 2012,  please use the link below. Remember! If you have any questions we would love to talk to you! Just call or email us with the contact information provided on the form.

6) Free 17th Annual Choral Showcase

Bethel College will present its annual end-of-the-year choral showcase featuring Music Ministry Teams, The Collegians and Voices Of Triumph and the Concert Choir. The event takes place Friday, April 20 at 7:30 p.m. in the Everest-Rohrer Chapel/Fine Arts Center - Auditorium.

Bob Ham is the director of the Concert Choir and Voices of Triumph, while Jill Hostetler is the director of the Music Ministry Teams and The Collegians. Each group will perform pieces that reflect their goals and personalities. The night's repertoire will include various genres, including gospel, Broadway, classical and contemporary.   "Throughout the 2011-2012 school year, our music groups have been working hard to present great literature in a way that brings glory to God," says Ham. "Whether sacred or secular, our music and our performances hopefully reflect the Creator behind all the music. We've had a wonderful year in terms of music making and ministry."

Admission is free and open to the public. For more information, contact the Bethel College department of music at 574.807.7575.

7) Volunteer Opportunities

A) There is a program that is a partnership between Riverwood Mental Health and the Berrien County Courts that works to assist families that are struggling.  Often the teens in the family are acting out and coming to the attention of the courts.  The staff with the program assists the family, one on one, to bring stability.  Sometimes what is needed is a bed to sleep on.  One of the staff members spoke with me today and said she is looking for items for 3 different families:

#1 - a twin bed frame.  She has the mattress; she is just looking to get the youth up off of the floor.

#2 - a queen box spring; she has a frame and a mattress and is looking to complete the set.

#3 - a used washer and dryer or just a washer or just a dryer - they do not have to match.  The dad in the family has a job where his work clothes get quite dirty and he needs to have the ability to wash his clothes.

They are willing to pick up your donation.  Respond to this email with questions and I will forward your name on.
Thank you for being willing to donate an item so a family can find stability.
