An all-time Broadway favorite has now been tailored especially to the talents and abilities of young performers (8-14 year olds).  Based on the popular comic strip, Annie Junior tells of a spunky Depression-era orphan determined to find her parents, who abandoned her years ago on the doorstep of a New York City Orphanage run by the cruel Miss Hannigan. In adventure after fun-filled adventure, Annie foils Miss Hannigan's evil machinations, befriends President Franklin Roosevelt and finds a new family in billionaire Oliver Warbucks, his personal secretary Grace Farrell and a lovable mutt named Sandy.

In a workshop setting, local children can experience the excitement of singing, dancing, and acting in this energetic musical theater production.  In weekly classes, participants will learn vocal performance techniques, dance choreography, acting techniques, scene blocking, audition preparation, and the technical aspects of drama culminating in a full length production of the musical ANNIE JR.  A team of fine arts professionals and college student assistants will nurture young performers of all ability levels with the goal of helping them all to develop through instruction and performance experience.

Dear Homeschool / Home Learning Network / Organization / Group,
My name is Alessandra Early.  I am a tenth grade student at Andover High School, Bloomfield Hills, MI.  As part of my MYP (Middle Years Program) project, I created and designed an international essay contest to help spread awareness about the mistreatment and stereotypes that albinos (specifically from Tanzania) are experiencing.  Under The Same Sun, "a Canadian federally registered non-profit organization founded in 2008 by Peter Ash (who is himself an albino)," has agreed to work with me on the contest.
The contest asks high school students (grades 9 - 12):
How can you and other young people today raise awareness about the mistreatment and stereotypes of albinos? Write an essay explaining your answer, thoughts, and ideas. Give specific examples and be creative and insightful.

First, second, and third place winners will receive a savings bond and a certificate. Any honorable mentions will receive a certificate.
Would you please post/publish (to your associated families, in your newsletter, on your website, etc.) the attached press release and/or information about the contest so homeschooled high school students may consider participating in this international contest?  (See http://www.nieonline.com/detroit/students.cfm for a Detroit News In Education Announcement about the contest.)
