5) Volunteer Opportunities

1)  Bethel Presents Free Choral Showcase

Bethel College will present its 16th annual end-of-the-year choral showcase featuring Music Ministry Teams, The Collegians, the Women's Chorale, Voices of Triumph and the Concert Choir. The musical evening takes place Friday, April 15 at 7:30 p.m. in the Everest-Rohrer Chapel/Fine Arts Center – Auditorium.

Bob Ham is the director of the Concert Choir and Voices of Triumph, while Jill Hostetler is the director of the Music Ministry Teams, The Collegians and the Women's Chorale. Each group will have the opportunity to sing several of their favorite pieces from the year.

"The Choral Showcase is a celebration of the music and ministry of our choral ensembles. It is a chance for all our groups to hear each other and support each other as well as allow the audience to hear each group in one setting, as it is the only concert of the entire year where each group is featured," says Ham. "My favorite part of the concert is celebrating the uniqueness of each group."

Admission is free and open to the public. For more information, contact the Bethel College department of music at 574.257.3393.

2) Spring Homeschool Day at the Museum At SMC

April 14, 2011 1pm - 3pm

Join us for Archaeology Day at the Museum at SMC! Homeschool students are invited to explore history as an archaeologist discovers it.  Students will participate in an "indoor dig", learning how archaeologists dig up the past, conduct an artifact-analysis lab, where they will discover how to 'read' their finds, and a mapping activity in our galleries where they will search out future 'dig sites' while learning mapping and recording skills.

The program is recommended for students in grades 3-6. May be appropriate for older students (parents' discretion).  While parents are welcome to bring younger children we do not provide alternative activities or supervision for them.

Advance registration is required.  To reserve your student's place and for any questions, call the Museum Educator at 269-782-1334.

3) Free Books for kids in Cass/Berrien Co

If you have a child 0-4 yrs old, sign up for free books.  United Way of Southwestern MI is participating in Dolly Parton's Imagination Library program.  Registered children from birth to 5 years old will receive one free book a month.  The program has limited funds, so it is first come-first serve.  They are also looking for people who will donate to the program or sponsor a child ($30 gives books to one child for a year).

The program may also be available in other areas.  Check the website for details.

4) Homeschool Science Classes at Andrews

5) Volunteer Opportunity

A)  Art at Benton Harbor Library

Krasl Art Center is hosting an activity at the Benton Harbor Library.  It is a gathering for all ages to experiment with different kind of media, focusing around a different book from the library each time they gather.  Participants come when they can and leave when they must.

If this sounds like a fun volunteer option - contact the Volunteer Center for details.  Volunteers will be assigned an area where individuals will be exploring or experimenting with art.  You may be restocking art materials or reading a book to an emerging reader that may give inspiration to their piece.  Plan to arrive 30 minutes early for volunteer orientation.  A Krasl Art teacher will be providing direction.
