3)  Free lecture at Bethel College

Arthur Brooks, Ph.D., to Speak on "The Secret to Happiness"

The Bethel College business department will host guest lecturer Arthur Brooks, Ph.D., president of the American Enterprise Institute (AEI) and author of 10 books, including his most recent publication, "The Road to Freedom." Brooks will speak on "The Secret to Happiness" on Thursday, Sept. 12 at 5:15 p.m. in the Middleton Hall of Science – Octorium.

The work of Brooks and AEI are familiar to Bethel students. This summer four students traveled with Associate Professor of Economics Aaron Schavey, Ph.D., to Washington, D.C. to participate in AEI's Values and Capitalism Summer Conference. They joined 80 other students and professors and explored topics including faith in the public square, helping the poor and the changing structure of American culture and society.

Thursday's event is part of the "Faith & Flourishing" lecture series sponsored by the Bethel College business department, designed to challenge students to look beyond the classroom and apply their education to real-world issues. Additional events for this year include the "Repair. Rebuild. Restore." conference to be held on Oct. 2 and 3 and a spring lecture on economic growth. All events are free and open to the public.

For more information about any of the "Faith & Flourishing" events, contact Schavey at 574.807.7177 or schavea@BethelCollege.edu. For more information about Brooks and his publications, visit ArthurBrooks.AEI.org.
