And LAST BUT NOT LEAST: classified ads and links of interest at the end of your weekly news.

1)  Auditions for young actors with voice training will be held for "Jane Eyre", the musical at Bethel College on October 13th at 5:30 pm. The auditions will be held in the Everest-Rohrer Chapel/Fine Arts Center lower level classroom FA111. We are seeking actors and actresses ranging in age from 8-12 for the roles of Adele, young Jane, Helen and John Reed and also 5 young school girls. Those interested in auditioning must sing and acting experience is preferred. For the audition we ask that you have a memorized one minute song, of your choice and be prepared for cold readings from the script. The actors must be available for rehearsals, which are usually held in the evening, and for the tech and performance week of February 8th – 13th. If you would like more information please contact Lisa Staples at 574-807-7193.

2) The Fort St. Joseph Museum is excited to welcome Sitting Bull's great-grandson, Ernie LaPointe for a book signing event on October 5, 6, and 7th.  The book, Sitting Bull: His Life and Legacy, is the only biography of Sitting Bull written by a direct descendant.  This book is great for parents and even high school homeschoolers would find this a very interesting book.  This is a wonderful opportunity for parents and high school students to hear and meet the last surviving great-grandson of Sitting Bull.  Books will be available to purchase at this event for $20.  For more information about this event please go to www.ci.niles.mi.us

3) Anthony Beer is accepting new students of all ages in the South Bend, Mishawaka, Granger and Niles area.  Our studio offers a wide range of opportunites for students to excel with his/her skills at the piano. The Studio exposes each student to many different styles of music, ranging from classical, jazz, religious and contemporary music. This enhances their musical knowledge in theory, music history and their musicianship and performance skills. My goal as a teacher is to nurture each student and to help them explore the beauty and love of music. I encourage all students to support the arts in their community.

I'm conservatory trained as a classical pianist and teacher. I have studied at Goshen College, IUSB and the Eastman School of Music in Rochester NY. I have National level students.

I will be giving a concert on October 18 with another pianist at Wesley United Methodist Church. All are welcome! If you have any questions please, call me 574-292-2038 or email me apbeer@yahoo.com

4) The Boys Next Door will be the first of 3 Field Trip plays offered by Bethel College this season.  This performance will be October 8th at 9:30 am.  Diane Day has reserved seats for all 3 performances this season and is willing to share her priority seating area with you.  Seats are $5 for students and teachers are free.  To reserve your seats for this performance on the 8th, contact Diane to arrange advance payment.  Please call or email today to reserve your seat:  269-445-1900 or joharding_20@yahoo.com

--Also--

On October 30 at 10:30 am Mendel Center will be presenting Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing.  All seats are $3.  Contact Diane to confirm your seats for this performance.

5) Creation Science Symposium

In our culture, evolution is considered to be fact. The media considers it hard science. Universities build their science courses on it. Almost no one questions it. Isn't it time to give our own kids the other side. Tell them they can be true to the Bible and to biology at the same time. Show them that creation and science are not incompatible.
On October 19, Dr. Timothy Standish, a research biologist and educator, will be on the Andrews University campus with a symposium designed especially for homeschool students.  For more information and to register, go to: www.creationsymposium.org

6) School pictures

Crystal Prenkert, a homeschool mom in north Niles, is doing school pictures again this year.  Crystal does regular school pictures and senior pictures as well.  The school package is $14 for 3 sheets.  A sheet can contain one 8 x 10 or two 5 x 7s, or eight wallets.  Extra sheets of the same pose are $5 each.  Crystal recommends that you arrange to get your pictures taken some time in October.  That way the pictures will arrive before the holidays.

Senior pictures can be taken at Fernwood, or another local location that you choose.  There is a $35 sitting fee, which includes 10 proofs.  Each sheet is then $13.  Senior pictures are retouched to remove blemishes and perfect skin tones.  You receive the pictures about 2 - 3 weeks after you choose the poses you want.  You may choose several different poses.
To set up a time call Crystal at 269 687-1752.

7) September 29-October 7 is Border's Educator Appreciation Week. You
now REGULARLY get 25% off all items for use in the classroom, but
during this week you will get 30% off of everything for personal or
classroom use. They request proof of educator status, but filling out
a form there has been sufficient in the past. A membership list to a
homeschool group or a lesson plan are other ways to verify your status
as a homeschooler. They frequently send 40% off coupons too if you
sign up for their rewards program.

8) Project FeederWatch is for people of all ages and skill levels. To learn more and to sign up, visit www.feederwatch.org or call the Cornell Lab toll-free at (866) 982-2473. In return for a $15 fee ($12 for Cornell Lab members) participants receive the FeederWatcher's Handbook, an identification poster of the most common feeder birds, a calendar, complete instructions, and Winter Bird Highlights, an annual summary of FeederWatch findings.
