And LAST BUT NOT LEAST: classified ads and links of interest at the end of your weekly news.

1) We are accepting UPCs from Campbell's brand products.  Campbell's is now offering bonus points:  if we can send in 500 labels by December 31, 2009, they will match it with another 500 points!  Let's save those labels.  Get them to any board member or any Hub event!

Here is a link to view all the participating brands:  http://www.labelsforeducation.com/pdf/eligible_products.pdf

A great way to save your labels is by downloading the easy to save label sheets.  When you save and attach 19 label UPC's from participating products Campbell's will give you the 20th free!

All of us here at the Homeschool Hub thank you for your contributions to our programs.  Without you we would not be able to offer our help, support and services to homeschool families in our areas and even nationwide!

2) Calling all photographers! Entry forms for the "Life in Michiana" photography exhibit are now available as downloadable pdf files from our website at http://libraryforlife.org/photoexhibit.  They will also be available in hard copy form from any branch of the St. Joseph County Public  Library.  Photo entries will be accepted on the 2nd floor of the Main library from Nov. 16 to Dec. 15.

Can't wait to see what the creative minds of Michiana  youth have in store for us this year --- in the way of photography that is.

Thanks,
Hank Herreman

3)  Sarah Hageman now has openings in her schedule to teach more piano students!  She teaches on Tuesdays and Thursdays at her home in Buchanan and currently has openings on Thursdays from 11am-12pm or from 1pm-2:30pm.  (If another time, or Tuesday works better she may be able to rearrange to fit you in.)  Fees are $12 for a weekly half hour lesson; $24 for a weekly hour lesson. Students will be given weekly practice assignments at each lesson and are expected to practice at home between lessons.  Emphasis in lessons will be on learning to sight-read music, but Sarah will also teach chording in addition to sight reading if the student desires.  Sarah has 15 years of piano teaching experience, has taught all levels and ages, and has bachelors degree in Music Education.  She also has experience in teaching violin and will consider teaching beginning violin students.  Prices are the same.

4) Beginners' Basketball

Calling all students (ages 10-17)! Join us at the Niles Adventist School for Beginners' Basketball, taught by Michael Paradise.  The fee is $30 per student (family discount available for 3+ students per family).  The class will meet afternoons from 3:45 to 5:15 on the following dates: October 27, November 3,10,17,18, December 1. (Alternate "snow date" is December 9.)  To register, contact Dorothea Sarli (269-684-3590 or dsarli@melwade.com).

5) Anycollege.com is a free online resource for college bound high school students as well as teachers and guidance counselors. We offer two scholarships through the website that your home school and your students are eligible for.

The first is for high schools who work with students helping them find their career path. This one is $1,000 and drawn twice a year, and the winner can use the money however best benefits the school. (Info here:

https://www.anycollege.com/hsmember/registration.cfm ) Once you register you are eligible for all of our future drawings! We will also send you some free posters, etc. for our student scholarships. Multiple teachers/staff may enter for additional chances to win.
The other is for college bound high school students: $2,000 drawn four times a year. (Found here: https://www.anycollege.com/scholarship.cfm )

We also run periodic other scholarship contests throughout the year, please watch our website or blog for details.

Go here to enter your school in the drawing for $1,000 and receive a packet of information about our student scholarships: http://www.anycollege.com/hsmember/registration.cfm  (Everything is free and we won't SPAM you, don't worry!)
You can find more information about our company here: https://www.anycollege.com/hsmember/ as well as career search resources and access to our college search.

AnyCollege.com lists over 5,500 accredited colleges and universities, giving each individual student options to fit their post-secondary needs. AnyCollege.com provides colleges with their own private access code that allows them to update their school's information throughout the year. This provides the most current and complete college information available to students and those helping them as the information listed is coming directly from the college itself!

We understand that it is important for students to find a college with the right "fit", so we have tried to make it as easy as possible for students to find the college that will be perfect. With over 5,500 colleges in the United States alone there are many options for students, and our mission is to help them find and connect with the perfect one.

6) I am pleased to announce that Bethel College will again be hosting our annual Blaise Pascal High School Mathematics Competition.  This competition for Michiana area high school students combines standard mathematics contest problems with several history of mathematics questions.

The exam will take place at Bethel College on Saturday, November 21.  The exam itself will consist of 45 multiple-choice questions, and students will have 90 minutes to work on the exam.

Individual and team awards will be given, some of which include substantial scholarship money.  (Members of the various participating home school communities will be grouped together for the team portion of the competition.)  In addition, the college will conduct several random drawings among registered students for prizes, including iTunes gift cards.
We look forward to having you participate this year!  Anyone interested should fill out a registration form and return it by November 7 (see below for link).  Because of current economic constraints you may be experiencing, we are offering this contest free of charge for those who register by November 7; no registration fee will be required.  Those who register after that date will have to pay $2 per student registering.  We will not be providing lunch, so you should make plans for lunch between the competition and the awards ceremony.  Many restaurants are available in the area, as well as some on-campus options.

You may access forms directly from our department website at the following link: http://www.bethelcollege.edu/academics/undergrad/mathcomp/competition/
A map of the college campus is available at the following link:   http://www.bethelcollege.edu/about/maps.php   Should you have any questions at all, please do not hesitate to contact Robert Myers by phone at (574)257-3524 or by email at robert.myers@bethelcollege.edu
Again, please forward this information to members of your home school communities.  We hope to see many of you on November 21!

7) Homeschool high schooler would like to try her hand at directing a small group of musicians.  She is looking for high schoolers with at least 4-5 years experience with their instruments.  Her plan is to lead a quartet or quintet composed of flute, clarinet, violin and cello players.  If interested, please contact Sara at 269-357-3848 or 269-683-7223.
