"Pre-update" - Showcase and Capitol Day

These two items are happening soon, so we are sending out a "Pre-update" this week, to get the info to you in time.

1)  The Homeschool Showcase is this Saturday, May 1st, in Niles.  It's from 10am til 2pm at the Bertrand Crossing Campus of Lake Michigan College, which is at the intersection of the 31 bypass and US 12.  For the entire time there will be robotics and Fab Lab demonstrations and art displays.  The tables will be set up to show the Lego robots in action - these are built and programmed by students in elementary and junior high.  In the shop the high school robot will be running, with students and adults allowed to try their hands at the joystick controls.  The Fab Lab will have a table showing student projects and will be running the laser cutter and vinyl cutter for you to see in action.  At 11:30 the Homeschool Choir under the direction of Valerie Rumpf will be performing, as well as guitar and recorder ensembles.  At 1pm the Spanish students will perform several songs.  From 12:30 - 2pm there will be chess lessons/demonstration/mini tournament (possibly).  The chess program is flexible, dependent upon the number and skill level of students and adults who come.  Marty may set up a row of 10 or 12 boards and play against all takers at once!  There will be info on week long summer camps in Robotics, Fab Lab/Entrepreneurship, and Fab Lab/Engineering.  There will also be info on the Homeschool HUB and the Parent Partnership for next fall.  You can see some of the artwork created in the Buchanan Art Center and Krasl classes this year.

We will have a "hangout room" with games and snacks throughout the entire time.

Come celebrate the year, and start planning for summer and next year.

2)  This next event has a sign-up period that ends this Saturday, May 1st.
